Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Ashe was an equity partner at Cassiday, Schade and Gloor (now known as Cassiday Schade LLP). Mr. Ashe brings 33 years of experience as a trial and appellate attorney to the firm. He formerly represented and defended physicians and hospitals in complex medical malpractice cases at trial and appellate levels. Mr. Ashe served on the firm's executive committee and was also the chairman of the appellate department. In 2001, he resigned from his former firm and began to represent individuals and families who have suffered losses due to medical malpractice, vehicular collisions, premises liability, products liability, construction and work related injuries. As a trial attorney, Mr. Ashe has served as lead counsel in both prosecuting and defending cases involving claims of catastrophic damages arising from medical negligence.
In his first jury trial on behalf of a victim of medical malpractice, he secured a $2.5 million verdict for a family in connection with the death of a 68 year old man who was not monitored properly by a home health care nurse following his discharge from a local hospital. More recently, he obtained a $3.3 million verdict for a man who filed suit against a hospital for severe back injuries caused by the negligence of an occupational therapist.
Over the years, Mr. Ashe has also successfully settled and mediated cases which resulted in multimillion dollar recoveries for victims of negligence.
Mr. Ashe has lectured extensively on a wide range of topics including medical -legal matters before hospitals, physicians, insurance companies and bar associations. He has recently served as a judge, at the request of local law schools, for moot court and advanced trial advocacy competitions. Mr. Ashe also recently acted as a moderator for a seminar on nursing home negligence sponsored by the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and presented a speech on closing arguments at a seminar organized by the Illinois State Bar Association.
In addition, Mr. Ashe has authored and co -authored the "Jurisdiction of the Subject Matter" chapter of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education's handbook on the topic of Civil Procedure.
He is currently a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyer's Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. In the past, he has been a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois Association of Health Care Attorneys. Mr. Ashe was a past member of the Judicial Evaluation Committee of the Chicago Bar Association where he served as Chief of Investigations.
